Adilea SRL

The online community platform for senior autonomy

EU and Interreg – 2022

Overview

Client: EU Interreg V A Grande Région Programme

Coordinator: Département de la Moselle (FR)

Role of Adilea: Solution provider — design, configuration, and delivery of the SeniorActiv’ collaborative platform (based on betoobe)

Period: 2022 – 2023

SeniorActiv’ was an EU Interreg project uniting partners from Belgium, France, Germany, and Luxembourg to promote active ageing and exchange of good practices between regions. The project needed an online space where professionals in healthcare, research, and policy could share knowledge, results, and events.

Adilea was selected to design and implement this e-community platform, providing a ready-to-use and configurable solution built on its betoobe base. The objective: a multilingual, user-friendly environment enabling hundreds of stakeholders to connect, collaborate, and valorise their work.

Our mission

The project consortium wanted to move fast — within six months — and without reinventing yet another EU portal.

Adilea proposed an approach based on three principles:

  • Reuse a proven platform (betoobe) rather than develop from scratch.
  • Prioritise ergonomics and simplicity to ensure adoption by a mixed, non-technical audience.
  • Make sustainability part of the design, so the platform could remain online beyond the official project end.We delivered an end-to-end service — from needs assessment to configuration, training, and hosting

Our approach balanced stability and evolution, allowing continuous improvement without service interruption — a must in a legal context.

What we delivered

Platform design & configuration : Adilea adapted its betoobe framework to the SeniorActiv’ visual identity and thematic structure (prevention, mobility, digital inclusion, etc.). Modules implemented:

Hosting & security : The platform was deployed in a secure EU hosting environment, fully compliant with GDPR and accessibility standards. We implemented HTTPS encryption, multi-level permissions, and daily automated backups.

Training & governance : Adilea organised workshops for project partners covering:

Support & maintenance : A light-touch maintenance contract was put in place for the duration of the Interreg project, including incident response, minor feature updates, and continuous uptime monitoring

Results

  • Fast deployment: operational within 5 months from kick-off.
  • Strong adoption: active contributions from all partner regions.
  • Cross-border visibility: the platform became the project’s main dissemination channel, linking pilot activities across Europe.
  • Sustainability secured: platform hosted beyond project end to preserve results and facilitate future reuse by partner networks.

What makes it special

SeniorActiv’ demonstrated how a modular community platform can empower cooperation across linguistic and institutional boundaries. The success of the project proved that betoobe could be repurposed for any EU programme needing an interactive dissemination or networking tool.

Key differentiators:

  • Minimal custom development — reducing costs and risk.
  • UX adapted for mixed profiles (public officials, academics, healthcare actors).
  • Scalability for future Interreg or Horizon projects.

Technologies and compliance

  • Platform base: betoobe (Adilea proprietary community framework)
  • Framework: modular CMS with custom plugins for events, libraries, and profiles
  • Hosting: EU-based, ISO 27001-certified
  • Privacy: GDPR-compliant, multilingual consent forms
  • Accessibility: WCAG 2.1 AA-aligned front-end

Lessons learned

  • Adoption depends on simplicity and clarity rather than feature count.
  • Multilingual communities thrive when moderation and communication are planned from the start.
  • Sustainability must be budgeted early — hosting and updates are minimal but crucial.
  • The Interreg governance model benefits from clear ownership of digital assets after project closure.
